  Massachusetts Firearms Laws

 

Firearm Identification Card (FID), and License to Carry (LTC) applications can be obtained from Dudley Police Headquarters at 71 West Main St.  An updated application will soon be available on this website.


A license to carry firearms can be issued for the following reasons with additional restrictions as deemed appropriate by this authority.

 

    1. All lawful purposes.

    2. Target; Hunting; Sport

    3. Employment

 

A License to possess a machine gun will be issued only to a Massachusetts Certified Firearms Instructor or Bona Fide Collector.

 

bulletREAD AND COMPLETE ENTIRE APPLICATION. YOU MUST BE FINGERPRINTED. CALL FOR AN APPOINTMENT AND BRING COMPLETED APPLICATION WITH YOU AT THAT TIME. Renewal applicant's provide a photo copy of expired License to Carry or Firearms Identification Card (front & back)
bulletAll first time applicants must provide three (3) letters of recommendation of your suitability to carry a firearm from unrelated individuals you have known for five (5) years or better.
bulletAll first time applicants must provide certification that the applicant successfully completed a Firearms Training Safety Course by a Commonwealth of Massachusetts Basic Firearms Course
Instructor or Hunter Education and Firearms Safety Course given by the Massachusetts Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. (applies) to class 'A', 'B' and unrestricted Firearms Identification Card).
bulletAll class 'A' applicants who apply for an 'ALL LAWFUL PURPOSES'  License to Carry which will allow the applicant to carry a firearm in a concealed manner must have reason to fear personal injury to themselves, their family or property. Written justification for such belief shall be filed with the application for consideration and review.
bulletAll applicants seeking a License to Carry Firearms for employment purposes shall on company letterhead submit a signed letter from their employer stating his or her duties and need to carry a
firearm. In the event the applicant is terminated or changes employment the License to Carry Firearms shall be revoked. It is the responsibility of the applicant to notify the Licensing
Authority of the Dudley Police Department upon any change of employment.
bulletAll applicants are required to sign the attached authorization to perform a search of criminal record activity pursuant to the provisions of Massachusetts General Law.
bulletAll applicants are required to read and sign the attached acknowledgment of the LIMITS OF THE USE OF DEADLY FORCE.
bulletAn application fee of $100.00, NON REFUNDABLE, is payable when application is submitted. PERSONAL CHECK, BANK CHECK OR MONEY ORDER ONLY! NO CASH. Make check payable to the Town of Dudley.
