Want to become a Dudley Police Officer?
The Dudley Police Department is a non-civil service department.
We typically hire from our Reserve Officer pool.
To become a Reserve Officer, you must satisfy the following
requirements;
 | Successfully complete the Reserve Academy held by the Massachusetts
Criminal Justice Training Council |
 | Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency. |
 | Possess a valid Massachusetts drivers' license and have a good
driving record. |
 | Must not have been convicted of a felony at any time. |
 | Must be a United States citizen. |
 | Must have good moral character. |
 | Honorable discharge from the Armed Forces, if applicable. |
 | Must pass a psychological test. |
 | Must pass physical examination and physical agility test. |
 | Vision correctable to 20/20. |
 | Through and extensive background investigation. |
 | After initial application is reviewed by the Police Department
Supervisors in cooperation with the Dudley Police Evaluating Committee,
the top candidates will be granted an interview. After the
interview phase, the Board of Selectmen will then make the appointments
based on the recommendations of the Police Evaluating Committee and the
Chief of Police. |
To become a full time Police Officer, you must satisfy these additional
requirements;
 | First priority is given to our Reserve Officers, therefore you must
complete the Reserve requirements before you are eligible for a full
time position. There are some exceptions to this rule and are
review on a case by case situation. |
 | Provide letter of intent to the Chief of Police. |
 | Your past performance is then reviewed by the Police Department
Supervisors in cooperation with the Dudley Police Evaluating Committee,
the top candidates will be granted an interview. After the
interview phase, the Board of Selectmen will then make the appointments
based on the recommendations of the Police Evaluating Committee and the
Chief of Police. |
 | You may be required to be re-evaluated as listed under Reserve
Officer requirements. |
 | Newly appointed Officers will then attend a 26 week Police Academy
sponsored by the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council.

 | Educational requirements: There is a minimum requirement that all
Officers have a high school diploma from an accredited school or
service. However, the demand of the job show a need for applicants
to be committed to continuing their education for professional growth
and promotion. It is advised that Officers go on to an Associate
Degree level. Promotion to a supervisory level carries a
recommended Bachelor or Master Degree status for eligibility. |
