Press Release

March 18, 2009

On Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at approximately 2am, Officers James Annese and Marek Karlowicz were advised of vehicle and suspect descriptions of two individuals wanted for questioning in connection with an earlier vandalism incident at Dunkin Donuts on South Main Street in Webster.  The descriptions provided matched those of a vehicle and two male subjects which these officers had stopped on two separate occasions earlier that evening.  While on patrol in the Tanyard Road area at approximately 2:20am, Officer Karlowicz located the vehicle in question, which was identified as a 1988 Grey Buick with Rhode Island license plates, traveling on Dudley Hill Road at the intersection of Tanyard Road.  The car was stopped at that intersection.

Two male subjects were present in the vehicle.  The driver was identified as Andrew Acquisto age 20 of 242 Philip Street, Woonsocket, RI.  The passenger was identified as Damaso Hernandez age 19 of 142 Burrington Street, also of Woonsocket RI.  Officer Karlowicz detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and observed several items of interest in the vehicle, including a safe.  These items were not present in the car during the previous stops.  After initially stopping, the vehicle was driven from the scene and stopped a short distance away near #37 Dudley Hill Road.  Both vehicle occupants fled on foot.

Police officers from Webster, Oxford, and Charlton, as well as members of the Mass State Police were called in to assist.  K-9 officers from Webster and the State Police were also involved in the search.  Both suspects were located a short time later in a wooded area near Nichols College.  The investigation revealed these individuals were suspected of breaking into a home on Railroad Avenue in Dudley a short time earlier.  Several items recovered in the vehicle are believed to have been stolen from that residence.

Both subjects face numerous charges including Breaking an Entering in the nighttime, Larceny of property over $250, disorderly conduct, and possession of over an ounce of class D marijuana.  After booking, both subjects were brought to Dudley District Court for arraignment.

The case remains under investigation at this time and further charges are anticipated in connection with this incident.
