Chief's Corner
Chief Steven J. Wojnar Dudley Chief of Police
I was recently asked a question about renewing a driver’s license. The person wanted to renew their license. The last time they renewed their license, it was done on-line. They believed this time they needed to go in person to do this. They wondered if there were any options other than having to go to the Registry itself. The Registry of Motor Vehicles is now located in Charlton at the Turnpike rest area. Many people are hesitant to go to this new location. Some say that it is inconvenient and they have safety concerns. If you feel this way, the easiest method at this time is to renew your license on-line. This is the most convenient way for people to accomplish this task. However, the Registry allows operators to renew their license in this fashion only one time every ten years, so in this case, it would not be an option. The Registry used to have what were called “license express” locations. These were designated sites around the state where you could only renew your driver’s license. Unfortunately, these are no longer options, as the Registry does not have these remote sites in operation ant longer. It does appear the Registry is the only “in person” renewal option at this time. If you are not comfortable driving to the Charlton location, perhaps you could find a ride or travel to another office around the area. Discussions are in the works to find another suitable location for the Charlton Registry office. Until then, this does appear to be the only option in the area. The Massachusetts Registry Web Site has more information on this and other laws at www.mass.gov/rmv. I had the pleasure to visit with the Men’s Club at Christopher Heights in Webster on Wednesday, April 21st. In addition to a fine Hawaiian style lunch, I enjoyed talking about a number of subjects with the residents and staff. It was nice to see some familiar faces in the group. I thank the staff members and residents for their time and hospitality. Dudley residents are reminded to get out and vote on Monday, May 3rd. In addition electing some of our local officials, there is an important proposition 2 ˝ override question on the ballot. It is very important to be informed about the facts before voting "yes" or "no". If you have any questions or need further information on this subject, feel free to contact me. Thanks again for your questions and comments. Please send them to me at the Dudley Police Department 71 West Main St. Dudley, Ma. 01571 or email at swojnar@dudleypolice.com.
