Dudley Chief of Police

On Thursday, October 23^rd, we will be kicking off a new program here in Town.  As part of our continued Triad Program, our department will be joining forces with the Dudley Seniors and the Worcester County Sheriff’s Department to present a house numbering program.  I wanted to take this opportunity to provide some information on this effort.

                   House numbers are extremely important for quick and easy location of your home in the event of an emergency.  In Dudley, Article 37 of the Town by-laws requires these numbers to be present at homes, businesses, and other buildings.  The numbers must be “at least (3) three inches in height in a contrasting color, and shall be clearly visible from the public way upon which the structure fronts.”  The ability to provide numbers for those residents who need them is a very valuable service.

                   The Sheriff’s Department has secured the materials necessary for the manufacturing house number signs for residents.  All the labor is provided by the inmates at the jail.  These signs are available in two designs so the person ordering them can make their own choice.  All of these are free of charge to those who need them.  These were initially intended for the elderly or disabled, but anyone who is in need of a sign has the opportunity to have one made.  This program is currently under way in several communities throughout Worcester County.  We are fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in this very important project.

                   As stated previously, the program is expected to kickoff officially on Thursday October 23^rd at 1pm in the Dudley Senior Center.  Senior Center Director Ms. Carolyn Gauthier can be credited with seeing this program off the ground here in Town.  We thank Worcester County Sheriff Guy Glodis and his staff for their support and work on this very worthwhile effort.  If you cannot attend or would like more information, forms are available at the Town Hall and Police Department.  You can contact my office for more information.
