Chief Steven J. Wojnar Dudley Chief of Police
Reviews of the police arrest log often result in questions. Different charges appear and people will sometimes question their meaning or content. I was recently asked to explain the “out of agency” warrant arrest which appears from time to time in our police logs. Criminal arrest warrants are generally issued by judges or court magistrates for a variety of reasons. These can include a failure to appear for charges, an unlikelihood the individual will appear if summoned to court, or for other reasons including owing fines. When a warrant is issued, it is entered into the courts data base and will appear when a person is checked through the system. When traffic stops are made or police come into contact with people, the existence of these warrants can be discovered. Arrest can result based upon the presence of a warrant. The out of agency warrants as they appear in our computer system are generally for those issued from departments other than ours. For example, if the warrant was for charges brought forward by the Webster Police Department, it would be considered an out of agency warrant for our department. The arrested party is processed and either held for a court appearance at the Dudley District Court or they are released on bail to appear at the court having jurisdiction of the warrant issued. Many individuals are arrested on warrants throughout the course of the year. These often occur at the most inopportune times. If you have a warrant for your arrest, we encourage you to turn yourself in to a police agency or the court. This will enable you to place these matters behind you and your cooperation could assist in any disposition your case will receive. I wish to congratulate Sergeant Dean Poplawski, Principal Desto, the staff, faculty, and students of the Dudley Middle School for another successful completion of the sixth grade DARE Program. I had the privileged of attending the graduation ceremony on Monday June 12th. A standing room only crowd was on hand to support the students as they completed this course designed to promote anti drug and anti violence attitudes with our young people. This is completely funded by donations and fund raisers. I once again congratulate the students and thank the parents for being involved in the lives of their children. Also, congratulations go out to all involved with the Dudley Grange’s annual Strawberry Festival. Another large crown was on hand Thursday, June 15th, to enjoy the events of the evening. My thanks to all those who worked extremely hard to make this celebration another success. Thanks again for your questions and comments. Please send them to me at the Dudley Police Department 71 West Main St., Dudley, Ma. 01571 or email at swojnar@dudleypolice.com.
